Our Yeppoon to Brisbane sail may look a little like this.
Our sail will take us from Keppel Bay Marina, Rosslyn Bay, Yeppoon to Manly Boat Harbour, Brisbane, Qld. It is approximately 350nm to sail from Yeppoon to Brisbane.
The mile builder is an opportunity for those wishing to gain sea miles, experience sailing at night, to consolidate skills or just to experience passage making along the magnificent Queensland Coast.
This passage will provide a taste of the cruising life. There will be passages which may commence at the crack of dawn or arrive after dark. Some passages will need to be timed taking into consideration distances, pilotage for entering an anchorage, weather and tides/currents. There may be long days aboard but these will be rewarded with time ashore at our destination.
There is the option to sail on the east side of K’gari Island or if the weather is inclement to sail through the Great Sandy Straits and out through the Wide Bay Bar. The Wide Bay Bar requires ideal conditions and timing to ensure a safe passage. Due to sailing to a timeline, the preferred option is to sail on the east side of K’gari. This decision will be based on the weather forecast at the time of sailing.
For the years 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2025 we sailed down the east side, however in 2023, the strong south easterlies forecast took us through the Great Sandy Straits with an extra day or two waiting for the right conditions to cross the Wide Bay Bar.
There is the option to complete sail training whilst aboard (RYA Certificate) including RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper.
There will be all levels of experience aboard with participants completing different courses based on his/her level of experience. The instructor will tailor the learning to meet each participants learning goals whilst also ensuring each participant develops the confidence and skills/knowledge to continue safe and harmonious sailing into the future.
Your safety is of paramount importance and our sailing route, anchorages and destinations along the way will be decided with your safety as a priority. The winds and weather will be our guide.
