Planning Your Trip
What is Provided
- All bedding/linen/bath towel.
- PFD and tether
- All meals from the Day One morning tea to afternoon tea Day Five
- Accommodation aboard from Day One to Day Five (4 nights). This may be in a shared cabin with another guest.
- We have Uno, Cards, Bananagram and some books on board.
Meals
- All meals are made with fresh produce with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables aboard.
- All dietary requirements are catered for.
- Netty makes homemade muesli; morning tea is a boat baked cake or slice; there is leaf tea and brewed coffee aboard.
- All effort is made to have no single use plastic aboard.
Shipboard Life
- All participants are expected to assist with life aboard by assisting with galley duties, keeping the yacht shipshape and contributing to shipboard harmony and a positive spirit.
Mobile Coverage and Communications
- There may be times where there is no mobile coverage. Please ensure family and friends are aware of this. Fika is fitted with Automatic Identification System (AIS) and family may be able to ‘track’ Fika on the Marine Traffic App. There are satellite communications for emergencies and for daily contact.
What to Bring
Important
- Please use a soft bag only. Please no suitcases or bags which are likely to damage the yachts beautiful interior..
- Please aim to bring no more than 15kg due to limited storage space aboard.
Clothing
- Protective/waterproof pants and jacket
- Warm/comfortable clothing for overnight sailing (eg tracksuit pants, thermals, skivvies, jumper, socks)
- Sun protective clothing
- Shorts and T Shirts
- White soled sneakers or deck shoes
- Sailing gloves
- Sunglasses
- Bathers
- Beach towel
Miscellaneous
- Head lamp (with red light too)
- Drink bottle
- Sunscreen
- Ear plugs (in case of noisy snorers)
- Insect repellent
- Toiletries (please no Wet Ones as these are notorious for blocking the loo!)
Optional
- Books/small crafts/small musical instruments if you would like.
- Sea boots (optional)
- Snorkelling gear
- BYO alcohol (For when at anchor and to be drunk in moderation please. We are a dry ship when sailing)
Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper Students
- Passport photo for those undertaking Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper
- Your RYA Yachtmaster Scheme Syllabus & Logbook (you will have one if you have previously completed an RYA course)
- Evidence of completion of your shorebased course (for Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper)
With your permission, we will share your contact details with the other participants prior to the trip which may assist with meeting for dinner/drinks, accommodation and transport costs.
Seasickness
Seasickness happens to even the most hardy sailor. Please be prepared.
See your GP prior to discuss options and please trial your medication prior to the trip to make sure you do not have any adverse reaction or drowsiness.
Some antihistamines are effective for travel sickness (Promethazine) however may cause drowsiness. Ensure you discuss with your Pharmacist.
It is possible to order some travel sickness medication online from the UK. Netty likes to use Stugeron, purchased from Gateway House pharmacy in the UK.
Flights/travel home
- Purchase a flight with flexibility to change the date and time just in case we are delayed.
- Book a flight for the day after arrival.
- consider organising travel insurance in case of Force Majeure or a medical emergency.
- Ensure you have accommodation organised in Manly, Queensland on the night prior to our sail, in the city we are departing from.
