What to Expect

These sailing adventures provides the opportunity to experience a coastal/island hopping passage, gain sea miles and develop cruising skills with the option to complete an RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper along the way.

Safety is of the utmost importance and the route for each of these mile builders will be guided by the weather.

Moreton Bay 5 Day Mile Builder

Sailing in Moreton Bay offers a relaxed yet rewarding adventure across some of Queensland’s most beautiful waters. Departing from Manly, you’ll explore Moreton Island, Tangalooma, St Helena Island and Peel Island, with daily opportunities to learn practical sailing skills as part of your RYA training.

Calm passages, stunning anchorages and hands-on experience make Moreton Bay the perfect setting for building confidence on the water while enjoying sunsets, marine life and island walks.

Brisbane to Yeppoon Passage Mile Builder

Departing from Manly Boat Harbour this sail will plan to include an overnight passage from Moreton Bay to Lady Musgrave Island.  Depending on the weather, the alternative is to go over the Wide Bay Bar and traverse the Great Sandy Straits, Hervey Bay before going on to Lady Musgrave Island, Pancake Creek, Great Keppel Island and into Keppel Bay Marina, Yeppoon.

Yeppoon to Mackay Passage Mile Builder

Our sail from Yeppoon to Mackay is approximately 250nm.

This passage will provide a taste of the cruising life. There will be passages which may commence at the crack of dawn or arrive after dark. Some passages will need to be timed so as to take into consideration distances, pilotage for entering an anchorage, weather and tides/currents.

There may be long days aboard but these will be rewarded with time ashore at our destination.

Mackay 5 Day Mile Builder

This mile builder will depart and return to Mackay and explore the Southern Whitsunday Islands which are at Mackay’s doorstep. With a multitude of protected anchorages, island hopping and the Great Barrier Reef providing protection from the ocean swell, this is a good introduction to the cruising life and for those new to sailing.

Mackay 8 Day Mile Builder

With Mackay as both the departure and return point, this mile builder showcases the Southern Whitsunday Islands close to shore.  With calm, protected waters, numerous sheltered anchorages and natural protection from ocean swell provided by the Great Barrier Reef, the course is ideal for island hopping and building confidence at sea. It’s a perfect introduction to cruising life and an excellent choice for those new to sailing or looking to consolidate their skills.

 

Mackay to Airlie Beach 5 Day Mile Builder

The sail from Mackay to Airlie Beach is a perfect sail for those new to sailing. With a multitude of protected anchorages, island hopping and the Great Barrier Reef providing protection from the ocean swell, this is a good introduction to the cruising life.

The sail will be throughout the Whitsunday Islands with day island hops from the Southernmost to the Northernmost of the Whitsunday Group.

Airlie Beach to Mackay 5 Day Mile Builder

This mile builder allow you to sail and explore the many picturesque islands from the southernmost to the northernmost Whitsunday Islands.  There are a multitude of protected anchorages, walking tracks, snorkelling opportunities and pristine beaches to explore.

This mile builders is suitable for those new to sailing and coastal passages.  The islands  and the Great Barrier Reef offer protection from the ocean swell.   The sail will be broken into day hops from island to island.

Mackay to Yeppoon Passage Mile Builder

Scawfell or St Bees/Keswick Islands are the most Southernmost Whitsunday Islands and at the doorstep to Mackay.  From these stunning islands, our sail may include the  Percy Islands (Middle Percy being famous for its A Frame structure and memorabilia); Pearl Bay, Port Clinton, the Keppel Islands before arriving in Rosslyn Bay (Yeppoon).

The prevailing winds in November should be North East with some stunning down wind sailing ‘ordered’.

Yeppoon to Brisbane Passage Mile Builder

Departing from Rosslyn Bay (Yeppoon), our sail may include Great Keppel Island, Pancake Creek (where a walk may be in order to the Bustard Head Lighthouse), Lady Musgrave Island, Lady Elliot Island before sailing onto Moreton Bay.  There is the option to sail either on the outside of K’gari Island or down the Great Sandy Straits with an exit out of the Wide Bay Bar.  The route will be determined by the weather during our sail.  It is our preference to sail down the eastern side of K’gari with an overnight passage complete with crash landing boobie birds (seeking rest on deck), flying fish, phosphorescence and star lit skies.

Sydney to Hobart Passage Mile Builder

This journey is for the slightly more experienced sailor (from Day Skipper onwards) and will combine stopovers along the southern NSW coast including Jervis Bay, Bermagui, Eden; cross the notorious Bass Strait to Flinders Island and then a leisurely sail along the East Coast of Tasmania with possible stop overs: the Bay of Fires, Wineglass Bay, Schouten Passage, Maria Island, Port Arthur and on to Hobart.

Hobart 8 Day Mile Builder

Tasmanian waters provide exquisite sailing grounds with many protected anchorages creating many opportunities for the cruising sailor. The mile builders depart from and return to Hobart.

There are three options for this mile builder depending on the weather. These include sailing either the East or West Coast and if the weather is really bad, exploring the protected waters of the D’Entrecastaux Channel and Storm Bay. All routes offer wilderness, beauty, wildlife and exquisite anchorages.

Hobart 5 Day Mile Builder

Tasmanian waters provide exquisite sailing grounds with many protected anchorages creating many opportunities for the cruising sailor. The mile builders depart from and return to Hobart.

There are three options for this mile builder depending on the weather. These include sailing either the East or West Coast and if the weather is really bad, exploring the protected waters of the D’Entrecastaux Channel and Storm Bay. All routes offer wilderness, beauty, wildlife and exquisite anchorages.
