What to Expect

The aim of this beginner one-day workshop is to give an awareness of the main systems of a vessels Direct Current (12V) electrical system and the ability to take simple measures to prevent electrical issues at sea; fault find and trouble shoot common electrical issues.
We will cover:

  • Understanding the 12V electrical system aboard
  • Why some boats have 24V
  • Batteries and earthing
  • The mysteries behind the Switchboard
  • Circuit breakers and fuses
  • Common issues
  • Fault finding and trouble shooting
  • Tools and spares (how to use a Multimeter)
  • Guided practice cable crimping, soldering, changing a nav light (practical session)
  • Alternative power including Solar and wind systems
  • Connections and wiring to electronic navigation systems.
  • Dangers (what not to touch)

The workshop will include plenty of discussion, problem solving and guided practice time.
