What to Expect
The aim of this beginner one-day workshop is to give an awareness of the main systems of a vessels Direct Current (12V) electrical system and the ability to take simple measures to prevent electrical issues at sea; fault find and trouble shoot common electrical issues.
We will cover:
- Understanding the 12V electrical system aboard
- Why some boats have 24V
- Batteries and earthing
- The mysteries behind the Switchboard
- Circuit breakers and fuses
- Common issues
- Fault finding and trouble shooting
- Tools and spares (how to use a Multimeter)
- Guided practice cable crimping, soldering, changing a nav light (practical session)
- Alternative power including Solar and wind systems
- Connections and wiring to electronic navigation systems.
- Dangers (what not to touch)
The workshop will include plenty of discussion, problem solving and guided practice time.
